The Rules

As with everything in life, there are a few rules …

1. The race runs from 7:30am to 6:00pm. By that we mean that the race will START at 7:30am. If you show up at 7:30am, you still need to pick up your dossier and read it .. so showing up by 7:15am would be a good - maybe even great - idea.

2. Proof is required at each stop. Your dossier will tell you what your picture should look like. There are no points for artistic endeavor ... if your camera is your cell phone, that's okay. As long as the picture on the phone looks like the picture on the page. Matching pictures of whatever quality = Points.

3. Like your mama always said - just check in! Check in is required every two hoursr. We'll give you the cell phone number to call. This is to keep track of progress and also make sure you're not on the side of the road needing help, or in jail needing bail. [This is where the cell phone list may come in handy, too!] We'll return the favor by calling all participants with a rundown of the current point totals, intermittently through the day.

4. The Finish Line is in Santa Barbara. The finish time is 6:00 pm. Not a minute later. If you are late, the penalty is 1 point off for the first minute, 1 point per 5 minutes after that. And no, you don't get a bonus for getting there early - heck - we're hoping we're there by 6:00pm to check you in!

5. Teamwork. If you want to help someone out that's right neighborly of you! If you want to ally yourself with another car, that's okay too. But remember, you have to have your own photos and there's only one winner. Another hint - the photo you need to get may not be the photo the other car needs to get ...

6. Rule of the Road. If a fellow competitor is in trouble and you are the nearest car, you lend a hand if needed.

7. The Bandit Rule. Speed trap? Sig alert? Local Parade? Call in and let us spread the word.

8. No whining. Don't be that person. Because in real life that person sometimes gets buried at the side of the road.

9. He (or she) with the most points wins. Simple as that.

10. The timekeeper's time is the only time that matters - if your watch doesn't match, you're wrong. It's like life that way.

That's it! Get your picture, call it in, and be a good neighbor. Everything else is fair game. While not a stated ruled, smack talk is strongly encouraged … hey, you've got the cell numbers, don't let a good thing go to waste!
